CFS/Lakeside Rooster 394 ET:
The genetics use to create this flush were selected for longevity and out cross. Nothing to current or older shorthorn breeders would be familar on paper. Glenn's program was never advertised and now only through Uncle is the prefix starting to surface. Sue McLachlan launched the Rob Sneed program in 2006 with RS 034 and later Sullivan purchased several females (2010). It took Rob Sneed 20 years to create true calving ease in his herd of shorthorns and he sold on the grid to prove the rest. For 20 plus years Sneed collected date including kill data. SVFI Rooster- JG Red Cloud – bred into his teens, he was Reserve Champion for Good Family Shorthorns, Kansas. GFS used him heavily and created a son by the name of GFS Red Cloud 7026 ( Harold Bertz, MO ) was purchased and when Sue stopped at GFS to see JG Red Cloud , they told the best son was at Harold Bertz’s place. Prior to the visit at GFS- some of the largest capacity daughters Sue had seen were Red Cloud daughters. JG Red Cloud was monstered footed as a 12 year old, Sue toured Kansas for the first time in 2002. Red Cloud was more popular among commercial breeders- GFS is now soley Black Angus program. Sue never saw 7026 in person but only his sons and daughters- it took me a few years to find a son of my own to use ( A&T Captain Obvious). 7026 bred until was 12 and Captain at age 11 is still going strong in a 70 cowherd. WMF Chase- During Sue’s visit through Kansas (2002)- Hub’s Ranch had a used a bull called CFS Dividend, Steve bought the bull calf because he was contending bidder on his dam during (WMF Dispersal sale). He loved her and Larry Carsten ( CFS) out bid him. The cherry cow I liked and many of the offspring by this old bull were the right kind. Steve Washburn stacked this blood line because that’s what HUB’s Ranch does – line breed. CFS Dividend was later used by Wayne McKee in Nebraska and some semen was collected. Later in a 2005 visit through Kansas – I saw a group of WMF Chase daugthers and Bill and Sue Shardiens, again body and beef type. They co-owned this bull and I knew the name from HUB’s and the purchases I made from HUB’s. Bill linebred Chase! Around the time Sue was marketing RS 034 – Glenn Engelland ( SVFI) called to order semen. Glenn and Sue talked about genetics and he had purchased a female in the WMF dispersal sale!! Well Chase was a bull he loved and used heavily along with JG Red Cloud- creating his Lima cow or SVFI Rooster’s dam. He spoke of Rooster and sent me semen. Sue was “anti roan” at the time and never used it. Sue made a trip through Kansas in 2010 to visit a bull customer ( lakeside Doc Clark) . Stopped at SVFI to see Captain offspring and cows by Rooster. He had SVFI Uncle in a pen. And a few daughters of Rooster and Rooster’s sire Nugget. It was worth the trip and a clear understaning that he linbred his only shorthorn family purchased from WMF dispersal many years ago. Uncle was 18 mos old and later sold to Midcontinent Farms and now you know the rest of the story. I circled back through Nebraska and then stopped at Todd Clarks who had a Nugget daughter. So top and bottom of Rooster’s pedigree are the same cow family and two shots of JG Red Cloud and WMF Chase ! RS Linda Kay sire is also the sire to the famed calving ease son “RS 034” that Sue promoted starting in 2007.
